Once upon a time there was a girl who went to college with no intention at all of serving a mission. She knew the Church of Jesus of Latter-Day Saints was true and believed in God and His love, but didn't understand the need to go on a mission.
Her first semester at college went by quickly. Her testimony grew into something deeper and more meaningful as she learned how to live on her own and depend on the Savior. Little had she realized how significant the Atonement was going to be in her life. She realized how much the gospel gave her not only a peace in heart, but a love of the world and the people in the world. She found true happiness. None of these things had triggered her want to go on a mission. It wasn't until the weekend before finals, when a close friend was opening his mission call, did she get an overwhelming feeling that this is what she wanted to do: serve a mission. As she thought about the logistics of it, things snapped into place, making it more apparent that this is what needed to happen.
One of her goals in life was to make a positive impact in the world. She had no idea how to help the world besides ending the problems of world hunger, poverty, or war. She felt hopeless and helpless in this world full of evil and devastation. This is when she noticed that what brought peace and beauty into the chaos of her life was the love that Christ has for her. God gave his only begotten Son to atone for the sins of the world. He gave us a comforter. He gave us a Savior. He gave us hope. He gave us a brother who helps us through all walks of life. This is when she realized, the way to better the world was to share what gave her hope to live on in life. This hope wasn't only for her, but for every single individual.
